My new Canon EOS 550D

Yes, I finally bought it. Yes I’m super excited about it! And yes I’m so proud of it! Can’t believe that I’m saying this, but I wanted this camera more than a brand new shiny pair of heels. This is how determined I was to buy it! My best (male) friend was shocked to hear this.

I know I have to learn how to use it properly, so I can take advantage of all “her” features, but at least I know that from now on, the quality of my pictures will be much much better.

Here’s my new love. No, it isn’t a pair of shoes. Isn’t it strange?

I also found it strange using my old camera to take pictures of my new one. To be honest, I used my brother’s camera which is much better than my old one, as it has big lenses and all.

As you can see I bought the kit with the 18-55mm lens. We’ll see how it goes and maybe I’ll buy another one in the future.

    • hehe Don’t worry! I’ve been using my small Sony Cybershot with 8MP this whole time. It was time to buy a new one. I was always interested in photography. And I like to learn more about it. But I’m still going to be using my point and shoot one of course.

  3. Τι κούκλα που είναι… Εγώ έχω sony cybershot, η οποία ναι μεν είναι ψιλοσαχλαμάρα, αλλά έχει οθόνη αφής και είναι και ροζ (χα!) κάποια στιγμή βέβαια θα πάρω μια dslr, γιατί όσο να ναι χρειάζεται….

    • I only took a few test photos but I know that the quality is surely much better than my old one! It will take some time to get used to it, and maybe you’ll notice the difference here on the blog too.

  14. That s a great camera. When I bought mine, I couldn’ t decide this one or Nikon D90 for a long time then I went for D90. Yours is better in Full HD video.

    • Thank you Deniz! Yes I think it’s great! I’m sure you made a great choice too. I also saw that mine has 18MP instead of 12MP of the Nikon D90. They must have other differences too, but both are really nice. I asked arround and everybody suggested a Canon, and then I choose this model.

  15. Oh, finally, I take time to comment! When I don’t, I feel bad, guilty! But I try to do all the stuff I had and planned to, and then I come to comment “with time”! Cause you deserve it – not only you are super sweet (and you know that!), but also your posts are great!
    So, first of all, congratulations!!!!! It’s an amazing camera, it looks awesome! And I totally understand that sometimes we feel great just to buy something we really wanted, and not compulsory a pair of new shoes!
    You know, I’m planning to buy a new camera in December, so I will “use” you, OK? Tell me how you like the new camera, please, and after your comments I may decide to buy that! I’m helpless for gadgets, I always have to have an opinion from an expert, cause I know nothing about it (and I’m not ashamed for that… I’m just this way, nothing wrong…) It’s true that people ask me “how many pixels?” Ok, that I can answer… but if there are more questions I start to say “I don’t know, oh please, I have no idea, get the camera and figure it out, cause I just know about the pixels!”
    Well, we can’t be an expert in everything, can we? 🙂

      Of course I’ll tell you my opinion, but I have to get used to it first. In time I’ll learn to use all of its features, but I have to experiment a little bit with it. I wanted to buy a new camera for months, you know that. And it feels so good to finally have it in my hands.
      And of course we can’t be an expert in everything, and I’m far from an expert. I’m more of an amateur who likes photography, and appreciates the “art” of it, and wants to get better. I’m thinking of taking some photography lessons in the future, but I’m not sure. We’ll see how it goes.
      To buy this one I searched on the internet, I read reviews, then I went to the stores and asked the sales people. And I was lucky cause I actually found the photographer from my brother’s wedding working in one of them, who recommended that I should buy a Canon. And then I had some models in my mind, and he helped me choose between them, buy telling me, pros and cons, and which one has better features in the same price. Of course it was a bit expensive, but I was saving my money for months.
      It’s always good to take an expert’s opinion. But I can tell you this: this one has 18MP hehe. But in DSLRs it’s not all about the MPs.

    • Thank you oomph! Yours must be really good too. I searched for it, and saw that it’s the same as canon 1000D, right? It can be called either 1000D or rebel XS.

  20. This is good camera I’m looking out form Canon 7 d, but there is that time when soon is coming out some new camera from Canon so I’m kind a patiently waiting. Too curious whats gone be next and if it’s worth the money.
    Can’t wait to see new photos with your new baby 😉

    • Thank you Ramona! Wow, I searched for Canon 7D and it’s a bit expensive for me. Way more expensive than the 550D. The new model that will come out now would be expensive, so you may have to wait a while before the prices fall a bit. New stuff are always more expensive!
